Q: What is IDG Academy?

A: IDG Academy is a platform for you to learn topics in genealogy in the comfort of your own home. Our instructors want to make the learning experience as friendly and positive as possible.  Using a combination of videos, chats, discussion boards, and assignments, instructors will guide you through researching your family.

Q: How do the courses work?

A: Each course will be 4-weeks in length.  The classes are taught using Moodle, a learning management system used in Education and in Corporate training all over the world. Once you enroll, you will be able to see general information about the class. New topics will be opened weekly. Assignments will be due on Fridays. Instructors will have a class presence through videos, chats, discussion boards, and feedback on assignments.

Q: What level of experience is required?  Are there prerequisites?

A: The course is designed for all levels of experience.  The only prerequisites is that you want to learn and have basic computer skills.

Q: How do I enroll in a course?

A: You will need to create an account at idg.moodlecloud.com. Once you create an account, you will be able to enroll in classes open for enrollment. Most classes will have a $99 fee. There will be mini classes offered for free.

Q: How do I interact with the instructor?

A: You will be working with the instructor through the discussion boards, email, and chat rooms.

Q: Will there be assignments?

A: Yes, there will be assignments as well as valuable feedback from the instructor.

Q: Is there a certificate for the course?

A: Yes, you will receives a certificate of completion for the course.  Certificates are not part of any board certified degree or credential. The classes at IDG Academy are for expanding your skill base and knowledge of genealogy.
